Rooted in tradition, thriving in the future: The Department of Agricultural Economics at Mattu University boasts a rich legacy as one of Ethiopia's oldest programs in this field. Since its inception in Bedele Campus in 2015, we've nurtured generations of skilled professionals who contribute meaningfully to the nation's agricultural development.

Starting small, growing strong: Our journey began with a dedicated team of three academics and 54 undergraduate students, laying the foundation for impactful research and community service projects. Today, we've flourished into a vibrant department offering two programs: a robust undergraduate B.Sc. degree and a postgraduate M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics.

Building a legacy of excellence: Our success rests on our dedicated faculty of 14, who guide over 138 undergraduate students with passion and expertise. To date, we've proudly graduated 275 alumni across four batches, each equipped to tackle real-world challenges in the dynamic world of agriculture.

Guiding lights for the future: We aspire to be a beacon of knowledge and innovation in the field by 2030. This vision fuels our mission to:

  • Nurture competent and motivated professionals: Through quality education, we empower our students to become skilled and well-qualified agricultural economists, ready to shape the future of food and agriculture.
  • Solve societal challenges: We delve into research that addresses critical issues like poverty, food security, and sustainable resource management, seeking solutions that improve the lives of communities.
  • Bridge the gap, build relationships: By offering multidimensional community services, we strengthen the bond between the university and the surrounding communities, fostering mutual growth and development.
